Bernadette Garrison Barrett
- Bernadette has been a licensed attorney in the State of Illinois since 1991 and a certified mediator since 2015. Bernadette began her career in 1991 at Barrett & Sramek where she continued to work until 2019 when the firm of The Barrett Law Group was established.
- For over twenty-eight years, Bernadette has achieved optimum results for her clients in civil litigation, corporate matters, divorce, family law litigation involving issues that include family-owned businesses, pre-marital (pre-nuptial) agreements, post-marital (post-nuptial) agreements, marital property and non-marital property distribution, maintenance, allocation of parental responsibility (f/k/a child custody), parenting time, and the relocation of minor children to and from the State of Illinois.
- Today, Bernadette continues to concentrate her practice mostly in divorce and family law litigation, civil litigation and corporate matters.
- Bernadette considers herself a “Circuit Rider” in that she maintains a professional reputation and is highly respected by the judiciary and attorneys in Cook County, Will County, DuPage County, and the surrounding collar counties where her client’s cases are determined.
- Bernadette maintains an aggressive litigation style. While she believes that all cases have options of settlement, she knows after twenty-eight years of experience that preparation is key and establishes a firm foundation for all cases. She will help you understand your rights and options and represent your interests in all aspects of divorce and family law, including the allocation of parental responsibilities and care of the minor children, the equitable distribution of property, spousal support, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, and, any post judgment litigation.
- Bernadette obtained her Juris Doctorate degree from Loyola University School of Law in 1991 and her Bachelor of Science from DePaul University in 1988. Not only was she admitted to practice law in the State of Illinois in 1991, Bernadette was admitted to practice law in the Northern District of Illinois in 1994 and the Supreme Court of the United States in 1998.
- Bernadette is an active member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Southwest Bar Association, the Will County Bar Association, and, the DuPage County Bar Association. Bernadette was the former President of the Southwest Bar Association.
- In addition to a full-time practice, Bernadette is the Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees for Moraine Valley Community College and a Board Member of Rise From The Ashes, a non-for-profit organization that provides pro bono legal services to victims of domestic abuse and violence.
